The Secret Life of Emily

"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."
~ Eleanor Roosevelt

Our family is made up of pretty private people. I am the most outgoing of the four of us, with Emily skittering in just behind me. Rob and Hannah, not so much. I am always cautious to protect the more private members of our family. We have found this to be true in our journey to Hannah. Rob is not a "put it all out there kind of guy" and would be heartbroken to see some of our most intimate moments posted for all to see, I respect that...so I have chosen posts accordingly and carefully.

Recently, though, Em mugged for several shots that totally show off her fun personality and I felt the need to chronicle these for all time. The first answers the question, "Is her hair always that curly?" Ummmm, no. As she gets older, it gets straighter, so we get more creative (wink, wink)

The second marks her favorite time of the day, bathtime, which is now showertime for her...she goes into the bathroom, starts the water, gets undressed and then usually flys like a wild monkey around the house in a get-up that looks remarkably like this

I am her mother; and so what is funny to me will not necessarily be amusing to others, but there is just something about the way she dons a shower cap, hair all pushed up in there, like Granny Smith, herself and then wraps her little self in her bunny towel skipping around like a madwoman.

Em has an affinity for animals. She has been overheard telling many, many people that she plans to work for Petco because "that is where the pets go", but as of late she has been strutting around in this number writing "patient notes" and reviewing the files of her beloved animals. Perhaps a look into the future...or not, either way her compassion and creativity are really fun.

Emily has begun (gulp) cheerleading and had her first game today - look for pics in a future post. It went well. She is really enjoying it and I think she only asked if the "game was over yet" like 30 times, pretty good for five:)

I love this post. I love the honesty of it.
I am certain that darling little red head could bring a smile to just about anyone. I smile now just imagining her bopping around the house in her shower cap ;)
I love the slideshow below Heather. You know what my favorite part is? Your husbands beautiful smile in several of the pics. I have seen that smile. Its very familiar. The smile that a daughter from afar brings. So sweet. It brings me to tears seeing the happiness that Hannah brought to your family.

Emily is just darling!!! I love the pictures of her in her shower cap, and as a Petco employee...terrific! Her hair is gorgeous, too, but the best thing of all is that pretty little face!

Dear Heather,

Another sweet, sincere, and TOO modest post.

Thank you for sharing more of Emily with us. I love that girl! She is so full of vitality. I must admit, I am a bit jealous of her shower cap. I have a reputation for "acquiring" as many shower caps as possible from every hotel we go to (not many). I have never had one as fancy as the one covering her flaming locks. I wondered about the curls and it brought back fond memories of my childhood seeing her in the pink curlers. I know you put them in her hair with the same love and care my mom did for me for many years. :o)

Can't wait to see cheerleader pictures!!! Hip, hip, hooray!

xoxo,
Lisa

So sweet! The picture of Emily in her curlers could be an award winner I think. The colors are fabulous...and well...the subject's cuteness factor just jumps off the page!!

I LOVE that you referred to Emily donning a "get up"...I say that all the time about Lia...she doesn't so much play dress up as put on a "get up". Too funny!

Can't wait to see the cheerleading pictures...although, quite honestly, my heart caught for just a moment when I realized that these little girls grow up....I must have missed that chapter in the handbook!! :-)

Okay...another post from me...I don't think I ever mentioned that when I look at Emily, I see what I imagined my biological daughter might have looked like! My grandma has red hair and so does Jim's grandma as well as his brother...so I always felt we would have a little red headed girl...just like the one on Charlie Brwon...and Emily! :-)

Wow just passing by and saw the most beautiful red head! Your daughter Emily is divine! Those curls are to die for.
My husband and I have red hair and always thought we would have a red head too. But as you can see @ www.roguequeen.wordpress.com God had other plans for us. :-)

Hi!
Your new blog looks beautiful!!! I love this post about Emily. So many similarities to Ainsley although she has yet to meet a shower cap!!! She would die to have those curls!!!! She got my straight hair!! Ainsley has the save Vet costume. They could start a "practice" together!!!
Have a great weekend. I can't wait to see pics of the girls together and the siblings! Give Kim a hug from me!
Blessings,
Diana
