Look out Laura Ingalls...

Emily wants a little house in the big woods too!

There was something completely time period-esque as Em donned her bonnet and pinafore for Colonial Day. Ahhh, second grade...where wonderful teachers in long skirts and with doiles atop their heads transport the little kiddies back to the day of apothecaries and silversmiths.

Emily loves, loves, loves history. I sincerely think she believes they had Colonial Day just for her! Sewing quilt squares, basket weaving, punching tin, playing hoops, she enjoyed each and every special activity. And I was all too tempted to call her Half Pint and go looking for Nellie.

Currently, Emily is reading Little House in the Big Woods and though I do not see myself making my own cheese and maple sugar, I do see the beauty in the simplicity of this era. I have to wonder if Emily would be quite so enamoured with this time period if we removed from her life some of the modern conveniences she has grown to love. Can you say pizza and DVD? For now, we will braid that red hair and she can pretend her own little house in the big woods as much as she would like...Me? I am off to take a nice hot shower in my warm and cozy home and be thankful.

Emily is "Colonial Girl Personified" -- in body, soul and spirit! Like I always say, she is so sweetly nostalgic.

And yes, doilies atop their heads! :)

Look out Laura Ingalls....Emily has come to the Little House in a Ville called.......

I adore LHOTP...and cannot wait to share the tv show with Lia in a few years (remember those glorious Monday nights???). My copies of the entire book series were dogeared and well loved...I wonder if I could read those to Lia NOW??? Hmmmmm....

Colonial Days...dreamy. I still remember doing it with my 4th grade...really really good times.

She is darling in her garb...and I have a feeling Emily would have loved life just as much back in the day...she just seems a happy little soul!

Best wishes,

Kate

Em look so CUTE!
I so remember being enamored with all things colonial when I was that age too. And I LOVED the Laura Ingalls Wilder books. Such a sweet innocent and simple age.

FINALLY catching up on your blog. I think we miss each other far too often.

Emily LOOKs like an American Girl through and through. Where on earth did all the colonial outfits come from???

I love that Laura Ingalls Wilder is still being read and appreciated by girls--they were some of my faves growing up.

I am sure you help Emily understand all the modern blessings (sometimes curses) we have and instill an appreciation in her.

Love you~

So precious!! I, too, find it easy to be enamored with a time past, all the while popping in a DVD and heating up something in my microwave!
